- Let’s call him John; after years of being looked after by “The
State” he suddenly finds himself back in the community and so
he goes to at a Salvation Army centre asking for help. His only clothes
are the ones he stands up in. He is also short, has a 22-inch neck,
52-inch waist and size 12 feet. Local calls for help from men’s
outfitters and charity shops draw a blank. As a last resort the Clothing
Bank is called and within 24 hours we kitted him out with two suits,
shirts, underclothes and shoes. Today, John, with help from local Salvationists,
has a flat and a job, but without clothes and the dignity they gave
him, where would he have been?
- We’ve supplied clothes to the Red Cross and the Refugee Council
for asylum-seekers in Kent and Suffolk.’
- A Salvation Army Hostel for the homeless calls. “We’re
in desperate need of underclothes, can you help?” The same day
500 much needed items are despatched.
Would we have been able to meet these needs as quickly without the Clothing
Bank?
This is just a very small sample of the many thousands helped.
