Today we, as a nation, are grappling
with the fact that if we don’t institute effective resource conservation
and management into our everyday living subsequent generations will have
an insoluble problem. Energy, however it is generated, can only be used
once as it is non-renewable. In February 2003, the Energy White Paper
set energy efficiency at the heart of UK energy policy. By using less
energy we can reduce carbon emissions, enhance security of our energy
supplies, improve the competitiveness of UK businesses and reduce fuel
consumption.
Manufacturing clothes uses energy but we all use vast amounts to energy
keeping our clothes clean and presentable - typically around 80% of the
total energy used in the life of a garment. So this is an area where each
of us can make a really positive contribution to energy conservation.
Set your washing machine to a lower temperature and use the economy wash
settings as well. Hang your clothes out on the washing line rather than
use the tumble drier, and only iron those items that really need it. Happily
recycling and reuse also make a positive contribution to energy conservation,
so don’t forget to use your nearest Salvation

One thing, however, we must never forget and that is the people of this
planet who are so often ignored when discussing the environment; but what
would be the benefit of a perfect environment with no one to enjoy it?
So be happy, but be careful with your world.
