We have Help Lines for those times when things don’t quite go as
planned. Although computerised, they are manned by a team of skilled operators
from 9 to 5 weekdays. All calls to our Help Lines are charged at local
rates so you don’t need to worry about the cost of ringing them.
So if you need help with a clothing bank issue or concern call:
0845 458 1999
or if it’s about a plastic bag “posted” through your
letter box dial
0845 458 1812
People sometimes donate more items than they intend to. The Help Line
often receives calls from panic-stricken people who have dropped in various
objects by mistake. Although not always successful, we do our best to
return the missing goods.
Here’s some examples:
One man escaped his wife’s wrath because
a collector was able to rescue his bag of dry cleaning.
An elderly woman, found by her daughter on the doorstep in great distress,
had dropped her house keys in the bank. The Help Line received the call
and the keys were safely returned within an hour and a half.
Another man had left his wallet containing a lot of money in an old jacket.
His wife, unknowingly, had given it to one of our door to door collectors.
There was a happy ending as it was found, but only after sorting through
nearly 10 tonnes of clothes!
and here’s some examples of “thank you” letters
we’ve received:
…with many thanks I received my bag this morning with all the
contacts intact which I carelessly put in The Salvation Army receptacle….
…the waistcoats arrived safely Saturday morning, thank you very
much for locating them and returning them…
…very many thanks for returning my driving licence and keys…
I am still racking my brains to think how I came to lose them …
very grateful…
